Back to top Colleges

TAFEWA programs are frequently used to support the knowledge and skills development of students.

Work experience arrangements will vary from program to program, and from College to College. So while many courses have lecturers or other staff who liaise with industry and employer representatives to coordinate student work placements, in some instances it will be up to each individual student to research and identify their own work experience opportunity.

Career Advisors at TAFE can help students to

  • develop an employment action plan
  • access labour market information
  • access employment markets
  • write job applications and résumé

A Work Experience Reflection

I had to do work experience as part of my Certificate III in Horticulture. Perth Zoo were happy for me to do work experience there and it was a great advantage and start to my career in Horticulture. The most positive aspect that I got from working at the Zoo was the experience of working along side professional Horticulturalists. This gave me great insight into what to expect when entering the workforce. I am currently the Head Gardner at Caversham House in the Swan Valley, partly thanks to the quality work experience I undertook in my student years.
