Legislation: The Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission
The goal of HREOC is to foster greater understanding and protection of human rights in Australia and to address the human rights concerns of a broad range of individuals and groups. They are responsible for administering the following Acts:

  • Age Discrimination Act 2004
  • Disability Discrimination Act 1992
  • Racial Discrimination Act 1975
  • Sex Discrimination Act 1984
  • Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Act 1986

Legislation: Working with Children

The Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking) Act 2004 is part of a suite of strategies to improve the protection of children in the community. Under the legislation, people working with children in certain types of employment or volunteer work must have a national criminal record check.

Australian (WA): Police Clearances

While the WA Police does not "clear" individuals for employment and licence purposes, the police do provide, upon application and payment of an associated fee, a National Police Certificate and a State Traffic Certificate.

Australian: WorkSafe Occupational Safety and Health

WorkSafe is responsible for the administration of work safety and health laws. Their website is a key resource and contains free online training. This is ideal for everyone considering industry work placements and may also be used for industry induction programmes.
